For best results, use "wet erase" markers for writing on the glass or lamination to achieve a better look. Then, attach a post-it note in the space provided to keep track of your shopping list. The goal is to shape the rice krispies into a

TURKEY HEAD AND BODY!

The feathers are made with

Gumdrops and toothpicks,

And the face and gobbler are made

From fruit roll ups and candy corn.

These Turkey’s will keep little hands

Busy for quite a while.

Traditions and Ideas for Christmas

Choose a theme for gifts between families. For example: home storage, wall decorations, homemade, etc.
Christmas pillowcases. Make out of Christmas fabric for everyone in the family to use during December.
Christmas story time. Read a Christmas story s a family each night in December.
Play a 12 days of Christmas surprise for a neighbor. For each of the 12 days, deliver a surprise, For example: Basket of fruit, loaf of bread and jam, sing carols, homemade candy, ornaments, poinsettia plant, cookies, hang their light, shovel their snow, put up their tree, invite them to dinner, a personal gift.
Family caroling, and let each family member have some type of instrument: kazoo, harmonica, drum, bell, etc.
Give children an ornament each ear of their own. When they get married, give them those ornaments for their tree in their home.
Tie each child's gift with a different colored ribbon. color code each child.
Family Nativity. Each member acts out a part while one reads the Christmas story from the bible. (Matthew 1 & 2, Luke 2)
Make family treats and deliver them to all your neighbors.
Christmas Elves. Exchange names with family members, then do secret acts of kindness for that person during the week. Draw new names for each week of December.

Give a heart shaped or plain notpads and pen with instructions to have family members write love notes to each other during the holidays and place them in each others stockings to be read Christmas morning.
For an early holiday gift, fill a bag or box with ribbon, tape, tags, flat boxes and gift wrap for the onslaught of holiday wrapping projects.
Put together a cookbook of your favorite easy recipes.
Wrap a "Family Entertainment Center" for enjoying those long, cold winter evenings. Include items like of cards, a puzzle, a DVD rental coupon, microwave popcorn, cookie cutters, and recipes for family cooking projects.
Wrap up a pair of comfortable slippers with instructions to put up your feet and rest from the rush of the holidays.
Give a gift certificate to a favorite store, so they can take advantage of the after-Christmas sales.
For the garden enthusiast, fill a box with potting soil, seed packets, and starter trays so they can give their spring garden a head start during the winter.
Give several boxes of brownie or cake mixes for a quick treat when the kids forget to mention that a dozen goodies they need to take to the class Christmas party.
Give a binder with pockets filled with cards for all the occasions of the year.
Give a pretty holiday jigsaw puzzle: "Thanks for keeping me from going to pieces!"

Halloween Countdown

Countdown to Halloween! Count down in style by pulling off a candy each day for the whole month of October leading up to Halloween! The great thing is since this is a printable item you can print out as many as you need.

Use glue dots or double sided tape to attach a Hershey kiss over each of the circles to take off each day.

Ideas:
put in a clear glass frame
mount to cardboard and use a plate stand to hold it up
Slip in a sheet protector and hang on the fridge
punch a few holes in the top and thread some ribbon through and hang it

mount to a piece of metal and use magnets instead of candy on each piece!
mod podge on a ceramic tile then give it a quick spray with a clear-glossy top coat

The possibilities are endless, however you decide to display it... your kids will LOVE it and the question of "How many days until Halloween" will be quickly answered by how many candies are left!

A notice dated August 1, 2011, announced the 2012 Mutual theme: “Arise and shine forth, that thy light may be a standard for the nations” (Doctrine and Covenants 115:5).

Leaders are encouraged to use the theme as a focus of “special cultural events and other dance, music, and drama activities.” Leaders may also introduce the theme with a new DVD, Strength of Youth Media 2012: Arise and Shine Forth, which will be sent to units in November 2011. Additional resource material in support of the theme will be available in the New Era and Liahona magazines and on LDS.org at the beginning of 2012.

Alternate between Interval Walking, which combines short bursts of moderate to fast walking with periods of recovery - is that it boosts your metabolism so you burn more calories and fat, and the Total Body Workout, which strengthens the vital muscles in your abdomen, back, pelvis and hips - promotes balance, good posture, and coordination while toning your arms and legs and increasing your flexibility.

Interval Walking: Start each session with a short walk at a slow or moderate pace to warm up your muscles. Then start intervals. Each interval consists of higher-intensity burst of activity followed by an easier recovery period. End with a short cooldown. Breaking up your walk into fast/slow intervals is better for weight loss. You send your metabolism soaring.

Interval Walking is divided into 4 levels of Intensity: Esy Pace, Moderate Pace, Revved Up, and Supercharged!

Bunny Hop Candy Bar Wrappers

This kit contains 6 candy bar wrappers, Three wrappers fit the 1.5 oz Hershey bar. The same 3 designs are included in a larger size to fit both Hershey and Cadbury 3.5 oz bars. Design lengths may need to be trimmed up to 1 inch. They were purposely left longer in case you wish to wrap a chocolate bar that contains nuts/almond, which would require a slightly longer label. Simply print the design and wrap around your favorite candy bar. You may wish to scotch tape the top of the label to the back of the candy bar, then complete wrapping the bar, securing the end with scotch tape. This will give you a tighter fit, and a more aesthetic result.

Using l2 Easter Eggs put one of these strips of paper and the accompanying item in an egg.

1. Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here while I go and pray yonder. And he went a little further and fell on his face, and prayed saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt. (Matthew 26:36, 39) (a plastic sacrament cup)

2. What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty and worthy of death. Then did they spit on his face and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands. (Matthew 26:66-67) (Piece of a reed)

Resurrection Eggs

Simply buy a bag of plastic eggs and place the items listed below into each egg. Hide the eggs around the house (or you could hide them around the Primary Room) and allow the children to find them all. Then have each child open their egg and discuss what the items in each egg represent. You may want to number the eggs so that you remember the correct order to open them.

Egg 1:

Three dimes

A small piece of paper with the following verse reference:

(Matthew. 26:14-15)

14 Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,

15 And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.

Egg 2:

Cut Material and Clear Plastic Vynal
Material, 6 in square, 2 - 6in x1 1/2in and 2 - 4in x 1 1/2in
Cut Vynal, 4 in square

Step 2
Sew the 4in strips to plastic (1/4 in seam allowance)

Step 3
Sew the 6 in strips to plastic (1/4 in seam allowance)

Step 4
On right side, sew around square of plastic with a 1/8 seam.

Step5
Put wrong sides together and sew around square, leaving an opening for turning.

Turn inside out.

Curb Hunger With Lean Protein

As you’re following the South Beach Diet lifestyle you may notice that lean protein is a core part of your Meal Plan — and there’s a good reason why: Lean protein not only curbs hunger, it also allows you to maintain muscle mass while losing weight. Cutting back on protein during weight loss, on the other hand, contributes to a loss of muscle mass and potentially a slower metabolism. Lean protein also helps keep blood-sugar levels steady, which helps keep cravings in check.
When considering protein choices, be sure to include lean cuts of beef (such as eye of round), ground beef (sirloin, lean, and extra-lean), tenderloin, top loin, and top round, as well as skinless turkey, chicken, and duck breast, pork loin and pork tenderloin, fish and shellfish, and soy-based meat alternatives that contain fewer than 6 grams of fat per 2- to 3-ounce serving. Protein sources that are high in saturated fat should be avoided. These include brisket, liver, rib steaks (like prime rib), chicken and turkey with the skin (as well as dark-meat poultry), and goose.

Shrimp and Sausage Gumbo

I put a few of the shrimp in the gumbo early along with the sausage to give this sausage and shrimp gumbo recipe more of the shrimp flavor. If you're concerned about fat content, prepare the gumbo a little in advance and skim excess fat off the cooled soup.

Prep Time: 30 minutes

Cook Time: 1 hour, 30 minutes

Total Time: 2 hours

Ingredients:

1 pound sliced andouille sausage or other smoked sausage
2 to 3 teaspoons vegetable oil
6 cups chicken broth
2 cans (14.5 ounces each) tomatoes, diced
1/2 cup Canola oil or olive oil
1/2 cup flour
1 large onion, chopped
1 cup chopped celery
1 red bell pepper, chopped
1 yellow or green bell pepper, chopped
2 teaspoons vegetable oil
1 1/2 cups fresh or frozen thawed okra slices
1 teaspoon Creole or Cajun seasoning
1 bay leaf
1 pound medium shrimp
salt and pepper, to taste
hot boiled rice
chopped fresh parsley or sliced green onions for garnish

Preparation:

In a skillet over medium heat, brown the sausage in 2 to 3 teaspoons of oil; remove sausage to a plate and set aside. In a large kettle or Dutch oven, combine the chicken broth and tomatoes. Put over medium heat.
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, combine the 1/2 cup of oil and the flour. Cook, whisking constantly, until the mixture is medium to deep brown. Don't let the mixture burn. Add the chopped onion, celery, and bell pepper and cook, stirring constantly with a spoon, until vegetables are softened. Stir the vegetable mixture into the simmering broth mixture.
Put the skillet back on the heat and add 2 teaspoons of oil; reduce to medium. Add the okra and cook, stirring, until lightly browned and not ropy/sticky.
Add the okra to the pot along with the Creole or Cajun seasoning, the bay leaf, and cooked sausage. Cover and cook, stirring occasionally, over medium-low heat for 1 hour. Add the shrimp and cook for 15 to 20 minutes longer, until shrimp is cooked. Taste and add salt and pepper, to taste.
Serve the gumbo over hot boiled long-grain white rice. Sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley or green onions.

SB Grilled Salmon with Tomatoes, Spinach, and Capers

4 salmon fillets (6oz each)
1 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 lb tomatoes, chopped
3 cups baby spinach
1 Tbsp drained capers
4 lemon wedges

Heat oven to broil. lightly coat baking dish with cooking spray

place salmon, in baking pan and lighlty season with salt and pepper. Broil without turning until salmon is cooked through, 8 to 10 min

Meanwhile, heat oil in large saucepan over medium heat. Add onion and garlic and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 7 min, stir in tomatoes, spinich and capers. Cook 2 min longer, Remove pan from heat

Remove salmon from broiler and transfer to 4 serving plates. sppon tomato mixture over salmon, squeeze lemon wedges over top, and serve warm.

SB Lemon Vinaigrette

Whisk 3 Tbsp lemon juice, 1 1/2 tsp Dijon mustard, 1tsp dried oregano, and 1 clove garlic, minced in bowl. Slowly whisk in 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

SB Balsamic Vinaigrette

Combine 3 Tbsp balsamic vinegar, 1 Tbsp Dijon Mustard, 1 tsp minced red onion, and pinch of dried thyme, and 1 small clove garlic, minced, in bowl. Whisk in 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

SB Mashed "Potatoes"

1 1/2 lb cauliflower, cut into large florets (about 8 cups)
3 cloves garlic, peeled
2 cans (14oz each) lower sodium chicken broth
2 tbsp chopped chives

Combine cauliflower, garlic, and broth in large saucepan. (if cauliflower is not competly covered by broth, add water to just cover) bring to boil, reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer until cauliflower is tender, about 12 min

Reserve 2 Tbsp of the cooking liquide, then drain cauliflower and garlic. Transfer cauliflower and garli to bowl of food processor and process until smooth, piulsing in some or all of reserved liquid, f necessary to moisten mixture. Season with salt and peper to taste. just before serving, stir in chives. serve warm.

SB Creamy Broccoli Soup

1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1 large onion, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1 lb roughly chopped broccoli stems and florets
1/8 tsp salt
2 cups vegetable broth
1/2 cup 1% milk
2 tbsp lemon juice

Heat oil in large saucepan over medium heat, add onion and garlic. Cook, strrring occasionaly, until onion softens, about 7 min.

Add broccoli stems and florets, salt, and pinch of pepper to pan and stir well. Add vegetable broth and milk.

Bring to a simmer, partially cover, and reduce heat to low. Cook until broccoli is very tender, about 25 min.

Transfer soup to a blender in batches and puree until smooth. Return soup to pan and stir in lemon juice. heat through and serve hot.

SB Cucumber and Mint Soup

2 large cucumbers, peeled and chopped
1 cup low-fat or nonfat plain yogurt
3/4 cup cold water
1 tbsp lime juice
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/4 cup chopped fresh mint

Puree all ingredients (except mint) until smooth, then add mint and serve.

SB Tex-Mex Smoked Turkey Roll-ups

1/4 cup reduced fat pepper jack cheese
3 tb salsa
1 tb lime juice

divide 8 slices smoked turkey breast among 4 large lettuce leaves and top with avacado mix. Roll up leaves, secure ith toothpicks, and serve.

3/4 c reduced-fat cheddar cheese
3/4 c egg substitute (or egg whites)
1/4 c finely chopped green pepper
1/4 cup finely chopped onion

heat oven to 350. Spray 12-cup muffin pan
cook spiniach in microwave on high for 2 1/2 min, drain excess liquid
combine all ingredients, mix weel. Divide mixture evenly among muffin cups.
bake for 20 min, or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.

Good Fats are essential fro nearly all of the body's basic functions. In addition, fats slow down the digestion of carbs and make food taste better, helping you feel satisfied.

Good Fats are the unsaturated fatty acids our bodies need to survive. Unsaturated fats are either monounsaturated or polyunsaturated. Monounsaturated fats can be found mainly in olive, peanut, avocado and canola oils. There are two types of polyunsaturated fats - omega 3s and omegas 6. Omega 3s are found in some nuts; flaxseed and other seeds; and all seafood, especially fatty cold-water fish such as salmon and tuna. Omega 6s fats are found in corn, safflower, and sesame oils and also ingrains. (Omega 6s are considered good fats only when consumed in moderation and in proper proportion with omega 3s. Should be 2-4:1)

Fiber plays a very important role in what makes a Carbohydrate good.

There are two types of fiber - soluble and insoluble - and both will help in achieving weight loss. Soluble fiber is found mainly in vegetables, fruits, legumes, barley, oats, and oat bran. It slows down the rate of digestion of starches and sugars, which helps control the swings in blood sugar that lead to cravings. Insoluble fiber is found mainly in wheat and other whole grains. it speeds up the movement of food through your intestines, thereby helping to prevent constipation.

However, fiber is often removed from grains during processing to produce a smoother texture and to extend the shelf life of breads and other baked goods.
